If you were as disappointed as us about the heartbreaking cancellation of Konami’s Silent Hills, then an upcoming first-person psychological horror experience, dubbed Someday You’ll Return, may just be exactly what the psychotically unhinged doctor ordered.
In development by the kind folks over at CBE Software, the narrative premise of the game centres on a few tried-and-true Silent Hill motifs.
First of all, much like the original Silent Hill game, you’ll take on the role of a father, Daniel, who’s on the hunt for his lost daughter, Stela. She’s gone walkabouts and has gotten herself lost in a place she’d promised she’d never return to. Sounds familiar, right?
Furthermore, Daniel’s search will lead him into ancient Moravian forests where he’ll uncover dark secrets and be forced to confront his inner most demons and darkest memories. Fatherhood, fear, lies and refusal to accept one’s past will play pivotal roles in the narrative-focused horror-adventure title.
The Czech-based developer has described that their game will contain “horror elements,” where, “it’s not always the most obvious monsters which are the most frightening.” You’ll have to face your nightmares as malevolent forces rise up against you.
According to CBE Software, their upcoming horror-adventure game will feature:
Workbench interface – Create or repair usable game items in a specialized interface
Herbalism – Gather natural ingredients and make potions used to overcome unique challenges.
Environment interaction – Wall Climbing, using items on environments and other physical interactions.
Smartphone – The normal features of your smartphone: your GPS, mobile light, SMS and phone calls will all play a part in your journey.
Karmic system – In SYR your actions matter. The consequences can influence your ending.
Stealth & Tracking – Look for clues like footprints etc.
Phased day/night cycles
