According to ComingSoon.net, Sony Pictures Animation has released the full Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse trailer. Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman direct, with Shameik Moore voicing Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld voicing Spider-Gwen, Jake Johnson as Peter Parker, and Liev Schreiber as Kingpin. The LEGO Movie co-director Phil Lord wrote the script. You can check out the full trailer below.

Miles Morales was created by acclaimed writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli, who, along with Axel Alonso, pulled inspiration from Barack Obama and Community actor Donald Glover. The character debuted in August 2011 and has been a popular addition to the greater Marvel universe. He exists in the Ultimate universe, so he’s technically a character who operates in a New York that’s vastly different from that found in the 616 (main) continuity.

Predictably, there was some pushback to his introduction, with some claiming it was a marketing move by Marvel that played into the ongoing social justice movement. That’s fucked up. Why can’t people enjoy his stories without bringing the hue of his skin into the mix? Because they’re racist shits, that’s why.

The animation style is unlike anything we’ve seen before, mixing an eye-popping comic book color palette with groundbreaking new technology. It’s certainly a visually striking movie, but let’s hope the story is just as great as the animation. If the trailer below indicates anything, it’s that this will be one hell of a movie. No worries there.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters on December 14, 2018. Check back soon for more updates on this landmark film!
