After weeks of speculation after the ousting of star Roseanne Barr, ABC just announced that a spinoff of the recently revived Roseanne will be moving forward at ABC. The new show, titled simply The Conners, will see the entire cast returning to their roles. Minus Roseanne Barr, of course.

Here’s the show’s official logline, direct from ABC:

After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. This iconic family – Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J. – grapples with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging, and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.

Roseanne premiered its 10th season back in March, touting itself as a show that would bring people together, regardless of their political stripe, or some such self-congratulatory nonsense. Just two months later, Barr, a noted Trump supporter and avid conspiracy theorist, tweeted out some racist bullshit directed at former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.

In a rare and surprising move, ABC responded almost immediately, pulling the reboot off their schedule. Hulu followed suit by scrubbing the show from their streaming service.

In the weeks that followed, Barr went from claiming she wasn’t racist, to blaming Ambien, to saying it was actually meant to be antisemitic. (Seriously, imagine thinking this was a plausible defense).

Anyway, there’s no word yet on how The Conners will address the sudden absence of Roseanne Conner. While it’s unlikely to involve her character choking to death on a mug full of “liberal tears,” it would certainly be on-brand.
