BREAKING: It’s happening, folks. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Billy Dee Williams will return as Lando Calrissian for Star Wars: Episode IX. Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams will direct, while Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Adam Driver will reprise their respective starring roles.

Impossibly, Williams’s smarmy gambler has become more popular over the decades since his last live-action appearance (dancing with Ewoks in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi). Donald Glover portrayed young Lando in this year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, but fans will be particularly excited to see Williams return to the role himself.

There’s currently no information on the nature of his role, but we’ll likely learn more in the coming months. Keep an eye on our homepage for new developments on this and other upcoming releases!

Now that Williams is confirmed to help close out the sequel trilogy, what do you think his significance will be? Sound off in the comments below!

Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
