The CW is unleashing Batwoman on the Arrow-verse this December. EW reports that Arrow star Stephen Amell broke the news during a network presentation on May 17.
Regarding the news, Amell said, “We’re incredibly excited to announce that we’ll be doing another crossover event this fall on the CW, and we’ll be introducing a new character. For the very first time appearing, we’ll be fighting alongside Batwoman, which is terrific. The crossover is going to make it to air in December.”
The first season of Arrow aired on the CW in October 2012, kickstarting a DC superhero universe that later included The Flash starting in 2014, and Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow from 2016 forward. The shared TV universe, now known as the Arrow-verse, exists outside of the DCEU (DC Expanded Universe) films and has gained a rabid fan base.
Katherine Kane, also known as Batwoman, debuted as Kathy Kane in a 1956 issue of Detective Comics before the New 52 reimagined her as a Jewish lesbian who went by Kate Kane. Like other members of the Bat-family, Kane was inspired by Batman’s heroics and decided to put her resources toward fighting crime as well.
Casting for the part has not been announced, but expect updates in the coming weeks.
