Ahead of E3, Square Enix has officially confirmed that the release date of Kingdom Hearts 3 has been pushed back into early 2019. Bummer, right? Thankfully, the good news is that a concrete release has been locked in by the Japanese publisher. Kingdom Hearts 3 is set to release on PS4 and Xbox One on January the 29th, 2019.

Here’s the confirmation of the game’s release date tweet from Kingdom Hearts’ official account:

One of the game’s directors, Tetsuya Nomura, issued an apology to fans at a recent Kingdom Hearts concert and online:

“We’ve announced the release day for KINGDOM HEARTS III ahead of E3 at the KINGDOM HEARTS Orchestra -World Tour-. I’m sorry that we’re asking for a little more time than initially planned. Please look forward to other information, including a few trailers at E3. Thank you,” Nomura explained on Twitter.

Though Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced nearly five years ago, fans have been clamouring to return to Disney’s crossover action-RPG opus. Worlds, characters and music from popular animated movies, such as Tangled, Big Hero 6, Toy Story, Monsters Inc. and many more, will be blended into the hugely anticipated action-adventure experience. The worlds of Toy Story and Big Hero 6 are even rumored to feature a brand new original storyline. Square Enix has also confirmed that a playable demo of Kingdom Hearts 3 will be coming to their E3 booth next week to give fans a taster of Sora’s forthcoming journey of friendship.

Kingdom Hearts 3 arrives on PS4 and Xbox One on January the 29th, 2019.
