As a huge fan of the Alien series, it’s sad to think that we’ll likely never see a proper sequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Sure, it may not have been the perfect organism fans were clamouring for, but I still 100% feel that it was a well-made film that had its Xenomorph-shaped heart in the right place. But, hey, what do I know, eh? I also liked Prometheus, so… yeah.

While the Mouse House and Comcast are busy trying to outbid each other over Fox’s cinematic assets, fans can be thankful that Dark Horse Comics has recently revealed that they will be bringing William Gibson’s unproduced Alien 3 screenplay to a comic book shop near you.

Yes, that’s right, the author of Neuromancer, William Gibson, is bringing back his original Alien 3 vision and translating it into comic book form. With the help of artist and writer Johnnie Christmas (Angel Catbird), and with the comic’s colours being handled by Tamra Bonvillain (Doom Patrol), we can’t wait to get our grubby little mitts on it.

Speaking recently to CBR, Gibson was thrilled to finally have his vision adapted, albeit in a different medium:

“It’s a wonderful experience, and I have no doubt that Johnnie’s version, which adheres almost entirely to the script, delivers more of my material to the audience than any feature film would have been likely to do.”

Though some of Gibson’s original vision made it into the final cut of the infamously fraught production of David Fincher’s Alien 3, the majority of his screenplay and ideas were either left on the cutting room floor, or never filmed at all. For a start, Gibson’s original script would’ve sidelined Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), and instead focused on Bishop (Lance Henrickson) and Hicks (Michael Biehn). Crazy, right?

William Gibson’s Alien 3 #1 will be available for purchase on November 7th. As we learn more, we’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, check out some stills from the upcoming comic book below:
