Variety brings word that popular comedian Marc Maron has entered talks to join Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro in the Todd Phillips-directed Joker origin movie. The upcoming film exists outside of the main DC live-action continuity. Maron will reportedly play a booking agent who, along with Robert De Niro’s character, inadvertently helps create the Joker.
Maron is best known as a comedian, podcaster, and actor, his most recent credit being Sam Sylvia on the Netflix series GLOW. He starred in his own IFC series, Maron, from 2013-2016 and has hosted the wildly popular podcast WTF with Marc Maron since September 2009.
Maron is absurdly talented and will undoubtedly elevate the film regardless of the size and nature of his role. Here’s to hoping he’s got more than one scene!
The Joker origin film will hit theaters on October 4, 2019. Filming starts this September. Stay tuned for updates!
