Ubisoft has announced that both Child Of Light and Valiant Hearts: The Great War will be heading to Nintendo Switch this year. Child Of Light is scheduled to arrive on October 11th and Valiant Hearts: The Great War is pencilled in for a November 8th release.
Both titles are smaller-scale experiences than Ubisoft’s usual big, blockbuster games—but by no means does that make them any less wonderful. On the contrary, both are terrific in their respective genres, and were very much well received by critics. Additionally, I’d be remiss not to mention that both games have unbelievably phenomenal soundtracks.
Child Of Light in particular is a fantastic turn-based 2D RPG with a stunning painterly, storybook-esque art-style, as well as a thoroughly enjoyable fairytale story that is poetically written in rhyme. The narrative takes place in the fairytale land of Lemuria, and revolves around princess Aurora who is tasked with finding the sun, moon and stars in a bid to find her way back home. Along the way, Aurora meets a curious raft of unusual personalities, who join her on her quest, slot into her party and help her battle the denizens that stand in her way.
Valiant Hearts: The Great War, on the other hand, is a 2D puzzle-adventure experience that focuses on five distinct characters during World War I. Based on letters written during The Great War, Valiant Hearts is a moving, and frequently poignant game that tells five unique stories set amidst the backdrop of one of the largest conflicts in our history.
To announce both games’ arrival, Ubisoft’s creative director, Patrick Plourde tweeted out the following from his personal account:

If you look closely, however, it looks like Child Of Light II is written on a piece of paper behind the Switch. Interesting, no? This gives credence to the potential announcement of a Child Of Light sequel—sweet!
In the meantime, Child Of Light is locked in for release on October 11th and Valiant Hearts: The Great War is planned to be launching November 8th on the Nintendo Switch. As we learn more, we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.
