If you’re sweating like a varmint walking into a saloon he shouldn’t be in because you’re desperate for more news on Rockstar’s seminal Wild West sandbox franchise, you’re in luck today. The collaborative, all hands on deck effort from all of Rockstar’s studios just had a new trailer drop today, and it reveals salient and tantalising new details about what we can expect from the sequel.
According to the new footage, we can expect a more “interactive and detailed world” than any other Rockstar game to come before, which is an intriguing prospect considering how jam-packed Grand Theft Auto V was with dynamic events that made the title feel truly alive. The in-game world is confirmed to cover a vast area, including America’s heartland and frontier areas, in keeping with the setting and time period. This poses the tantalising question of how many states we’ll get to explore and how large they’ll be.
The Rockstar Advanced Game Engine also looks as robust as ever, even 10 years on from Grand Theft Auto IV without any signs of wear and tear; the Redemption sequel looks to pack more graphical fidelity into the larger game world than John Marsden packed the bullets into the bad guys.
The announcements were rounded out with the news that there will be a relationship mechanic between you and your horse, and a continuation of the moral choice system seen in the original Red Dead Redemption in which associating with good or bad people affects what content you can see.
Rockstar promise that the released video is only the beginning, implying it will be the first in a series designed to whet our appetites for the full game – mission accomplished already. The next trailer to come out will focus on the missions available to play in the game.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available for release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 26th, 2018. You can watch the new gameplay trailer here:
