Ari Aster’s hugely-hyped horror flick Hereditary made waves last year, with both critics and audiences comparing it to genre classic The Exorcist. Now, the film’s US-based production company — A24 — has released a trailer for the director’s next pic, Midsommar, and it’s looking like another terrifying thriller, in a similar vein to The Wicker Man, as well as his last movie, both in terms of tone and aesthetic.
The brand new footage unfolds like a glossy advert for a couple’s retreat in Sweden, but soon descends into a nerve-wracking nightmare, punctuated by bizarre and inhuman cult-like festivities. Anyone for a spot of “skin the fool”? Erm, anyone? That’s a no, I take it?

Though I thought 2018’s Hereditary was very atmospheric and capably made, I did think it was also slightly over-hyped. I’m very much hoping that Midsommar, on the other hand, delivers the horrifying goods and doesn’t disappoint.
But how about you? Will you be braving the Swedish cult-like festivities of Midsommar when it launches on July 3rd? Or will you be giving it a hard pass? Do let us know in the comments below.
