If there’s one action film that still stands the test of time, it’s fair to say that The Wachowski Brothers’ dystopian sci-fi classic The Matrix would be a very worthy contender. Not only does it boast some of the most jaw-dropping action sequences in cinematic history, but its deep philosophical narrative helped cement it as one of Hollywood’s most iconic sci-fi action movies of all time. No small feat.
That all being said, the franchise has been stagnant since 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions, a film which wasn’t very well received by critics and fans alike. That may be all about to change though, as sources close to We Got This Covered have reported that Warner Bros. is in the process of developing a prequel to the OG classic.
Further still, the mysterious project has rumoured to have hired Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, The Wire, Creed), who will play the character of a younger Morpheus. There’s not much else to go on except for these tidbits, but it’s safe to say, that this prequel will lay down the foundations for the original trilogy.
One personal caveat I do have, is that I hope that this new prequel stars Keanu Reeves in some kind of role. It would be hard to make an authentic The Matrix film without The One, right?
But what say you? Are you down to jack back into The Matrix? Or would you rather Warner Bros. leave the trilogy as it stands? Let us know in the usual place down below.
