Taking everyone by surprise, id Software has just released the original DOOM trilogy — DOOM (1993), DOOM 2 (1994) and DOOM 3 (2004) — on Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile. That’s right, all three classic sci-fi horror first-person shooters are available for download right now.

Kicking off its annual QuakeCon event, Bethesda dropped a bombshell with an “available now” announcement for the first three titles in their iconic run-and-gun franchise. In regards to pricing, DOOM and DOOM 2 will both set you back $4.99/£3.99, while DOOM 3 will cost $9.99/£7.99.

Additionally, DOOM and DOOM 2 will include split-screen multiplayer for up to 4 players. Meanwhile, DOOM 3 will come replete with the Resurrection Of Evil and The Lost Missions expansion packs.

Often referred to as the “godfather” of the FPS genre, DOOM was revolutionary in its day, and helped to popularise an entire genre to a whole new generation of gamers. No small feat, indeed.

If you fancy scratching an old-school itch, or are interested in the historicism of how video games have evolved as a medium, we highly recommend the DOOM trilogy, especially at that price point. Are you ready to give those otherworldly beasts hell once again? Let us know down below.
