When Netflix dropped its Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance prequel series earlier in the year, fans of the 1982 classic dark fairy tale were surprised by just how authentic – in tone and feel – it was compared to the original. Featuring the innovative puppeteering magic of The Jim Henson Company, who created the original film, the new prequel series took place many years before the events of the fantasy adventure pic and did a great job at retelling a brand new narrative set in the world of Thra.

That all being said, what’s even more surprising is that a new video game based on the fantasy Netflix series is in development for PS4, XB1 and PC, and is coming out in February. Dubbed The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics, the title is being developed by BonusXP – the same studio who brought us the third official Stranger Things game – and is being pitched as a turn-based asymmetric strategy experience. Colour us intrigued!

The studio has just released a new trailer showcasing the upcoming title’s gameplay mechanics and systems. Go ahead and check out the trailer below:

Looks super promising, huh? With 80 unique turn-based campaign battles, players will be able to recruit new allies and customise their resistance band in order to defeat the nefarious Skeksis and unite all the Gelfling clans. Interestingly, this is not the first time The Dark Crystal has been adapted into a video game. Sierra Online also published a pretty cool text adventure based on the film, which you can play here.

But tell us, have you had a chance to check out the new series yet? And will you be checking the game out, too? Do let us know in the usual place.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics launches on PS4, XB1 and PC this February.
