Deadpool 3 is happening. During an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” Ryan Reynolds revealed that the wildly irreverent Wade Wilson will return (under the watchful eye of the Mouse House, of course) and that production (the early stages of it, at least) is officially underway for Deadpool’s third big-screen adventure.
“We’re working on it right now with the whole team,” Reynolds remarked. “We’re over at Marvel, which is the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kind of crazy.”
There’s currently no word on whether or not Disney’s acquisition of Fox will affect the film’s very necessary R-rating, but it’s not outrageous to assume that Disney CEO Bob Iger will adapt the popular comic book character with families in mind. Regardless of where the company chooses to take the franchise, though, we won’t know anything else for at least another few months. Maybe even longer.
The first two Deadpool movies (released in 2016 and 2018, respectively) raked in $1.5 billion worldwide, proving further that R-rated movies could resonate in a big way and even encourage repeat viewings.
Deadpool 3 may not hit theaters for a few years, but we’ll let you know as soon as we catch wind of anything more concrete! Stay tuned!
