The Legend of Korra is returning in an unexpected way. Dark Horse Comics announced via Twitter that Janet Varney and Seychelle Gabriel, the voice actresses behind current Avatar Korra and Asami Sato, will reprise their respective roles during a streamed table read of the show’s sequel, The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars.

Dark Horse started publishing Turf Wars as a series of graphic novels in July 2017. The story takes place directly after the show’s final season, which sees Korra and her girlfriend, Asami, heading to the spirit world for a much-needed holiday. Even as they bring back beloved characters from the show, the comics introduce Triple Threat Triad leader Tokuga, a nonbender deformed by a dragon eel spirit.

A sequel series to the acclaimed Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra ran for four seasons and continued the adventures of the Avatar, this time centering around current Avatar Korra as she battles evil and struggles to find her place in an ever-changing world. The show features characters from The Last Airbender but focuses largely on a new set of heroes. While not quite as well-received as its predecessor, Korra is frequently lauded as a worthy follow-up to one of the greatest animated programs of all time. Even better, the series deepens and darkens a world that, while complex, had never before boasted the intensity on full display here. It’s good stuff and more than warrants a watch.

The table reading will take place at 2 PM Pacific on April 6. Will you be watching? And are you excited for Varney’s return to one of her best roles? Sound off in the comments section below!
