In Season Two of the FXX series What We Do in the Shadows, vampire Laszlo Cravensworth (Matt Berry) battled Luke Skywalker.
Well, not exactly.
Lazlo did square-off against Mark Hamill in the episode “On the Run.” And Hamill did wield a sword-like object. It was a pool cue held by Jim the Vampire, but that was enough to leave Berry starstruck. “Well you’ve got to understand what that was like,” Berry explained during today’s What We Do in the Shadows panel for Comic-Con@Home; “I was stood in front of Luke Skywalker and he held something like that right in front of me.”
The panel was full of similar stories, from swiping props to the danger of working on a set covered with candles. Hosted by actor Haley Joel Osment (who made his own season two cameo), the panel featured Berry alongside castmates Natasia Demetriou (Nadja), Kayvan Novak (Laszlo), Harvey Guillién (Guillermo), and Mark Proksch (Colin), as well as writers/executive producers Stefani Robinson and Paul Simms. While everyone agreed that the candles enhanced the show’s locations, they did pose a threat when Demetriou’s improvisations ended with her dress on fire.
Despite the dangers and the difficulties of shooting overnight during Toronto winters, the cast speaks fondly of their time and hinted toward some exciting developments for season three, including appearances of new magical creatures and a romance plot for Laszlo.

Did you know:
Hamill isn’t the only famous cameo on the show. Paul Reubens, Tilda Swinton, and Wesley Snipes have all reprised their earlier vampire characters for the series, as have the stars of the movie on which it is based: Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, and Jonny Brugh.
